Following the success of the Dumbells on Broadway, McLaren left the troupe in 1922 to join the Toronto firm of Rous and Mann as a graphic designer.
He was among the talented company, with colleagues who were to form the Group of Seven.
In 1923, he partnered with John McCaul to open their own advertising and promotion company, McLaren and McCaul.
