The Homefront - WWI
During the First World War, people from all over Huron County tried to “do their part” for the war effort. This included holding dances, teas, picnics, and concerts to fund raise for causes like the Red Cross and the Belgium Refugees. Groups like Women’s Institutes, War Auxiliaries, church groups, and patriotic societies also supported local soldiers by writing them letters, gifting watches, and sending parcels full of local food and, of course, socks.
