“a safe space”

Testimonial from a former student, Sadie Hamilton:
During my time at SHDHS I longed for a place which was judgement free where I could feel like I belong. More than anything, the GSA helped shape me in to the person I have become today. In grade 9 I was interested in human rights and activism, so I decided to join the GSA. There I learned so much from others, having the opportunity to attend wonderful and educational conferences where I made lifelong connections. Often, the GSA felt like a secret club; many of us didn't even tell our parents we were a part of it. It provided many closeted friends of mine with a safe space where they could feel accepted, without having to come out. During my time in the GSA I organized and facilitated many class talks and community outreach programs. This experience was invaluable, and provided me with direction for my future career.
